
SULU -PRO BAR authorities recovered and confiscated twenty (20) boxes of assorted cigarettes for illegal importation and violation of Republic Act No. 10863, also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), on Friday evening, May 5, 2023, in the village of Sitio Pamawlan, Barangay Kajatian, Indanan, Sulu.
Indanan Municipal Police Station disclosed that a concerned citizen reported that there were boxes of allegedly smuggled cigarettes abandoned on the shore of Barangay Kajatian. Indanan MPS personnel immediately went to the location to verify the veracity of the report.
Upon their arrival, they discovered fifteen (15) boxes of GIFT and five (5) boxes of ROYAL cigarettes with an estimated market value of more or less Php280,000.00 left by unidentified carriers using Jungkong (local bangka) and believed to be transported outside of Sulu province.
The recovered boxes of cigarettes were brought to Indanan Municipal Police Station and will be hand over to Bureau of Customs for proper disposition.
Moreover, PBGEN ALLAN CRUZ NOBLEZA, Regional Director, PRO BAR, lauded the responding team for the successful confiscation of the said smuggled cigarettes. He also appreciated the efforts of constituents in providing such information that led our policemen to act promptly.
