MAGUINDANAO - Joint personnel of Upi MPS, 1st Mobile Patrol, Maguindanao PMFC, and 57th IB, PA responded to an explosion incident that transpired at Brgy. Upper Nangi, Upi, Maguindanao involving the convoy of Maguindanao Governor Bai Mariam S Mangudadatu on April 19, 2022.

The initial investigation conducted revealed that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded a few meters away from the last vehicle of Gov. Bai Mariam Mangudadatu's convoy as they were driving home from a campaign rally in the town of South Upi, Maguindanao.

Toyota Land Cruiser incurred damages to the carโ€™s bumper and windshield owned by Mr. Nathaniel Midtimbang while passenger identified as Abdulrauf Usman, Barangay Secretary and a resident of Talibado, Datu Hofer, Maguindanao had slight injuries.

Personnel of Upi MPS secured the perimeter, cordoned the area, and discovered one (1) secondary IED several meters away from the scene of the incident. At the site of the incident, investigators discovered fragments of PVC pipe colored blue, 81 MM munition, and masking tape color brown.

Investigators disclosed that based on the pieces of evidence gathered at the blast site, said IEDs had the signature of the BIFF. UPI MPS already has persons of interest in its investigations.

The pieces of evidence gathered were sent to the crime lab for analysis while UPI MPS were directed to coordinate with the CIDG for assistance in the filing of charges.

Thorough investigations are being conducted while adjacent Municipal Police Stations are on full alert status. EOD team also conducted post blast investigation and disruption of the discovered secondary IED.

PBGEN ARTHUR R CABALONA, Regional Director, PRO BAR directed all PNP operatives to coordinate with AFP counterpart for the immediate identification of the perpetrator/s for the filing of criminal case. PRO BAR assures the public that the incident is now thoroughly investigated and under control. Operatives of Maguindanao Police Provincial Office are now on heightened alert status to ensure the safety and security of the constituents of the province.
